Alice A. (Bredthauer) Mayne

          Alice A. (Bredthauer) Mayne, 86, of Omaha formerly of the Scotia and St. Paul areas, died Friday, August 28, 2015 in Omaha.

          Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate.  Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Elba Cemetery in Elba.

          Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

          Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church.

          Mrs. Mayne was born July 13, 1929 on the family farm a mile west of Elba to Andrew and Magdalena (Rasmussen) Jacobsen.

          She attended Elba Consolidated Schools where she graduated in 1947.  She then moved to St. Paul where she lived with her grandparents while she worked in the Northwestern Bell telephone office for a couple of years.

          Alice was united in marriage to Bill Bredthauer on January 28, 1950 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia.

          The couple first lived in Broken Bow where Alice worked at the local telephone office.  They moved to Scotia where the couple owned Bredthauer Department Store.

          Alice married Bill Mayne on August 8, 1969 in Sterling, CO.  They lived in Scotia where Alice continued to operate the department store until 1971.  Alice and Bill moved to St. Paul and Alice was employed at Miller and Paine in Grand Island, the Fashionette, Miss Lizzie’s Boardin’ House, and the House of Memories in St. Paul and also helped at Harriet’s Danish in Dannebrog.

          Her husband Bill Mayne died on January 16, 1992. 

Alice continued to live in St. Paul and moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in 2009 where she lived for two years before moving to Omaha in 2011.

Alice lived for two years at Mable Rose and the last two years at Douglas County Nursing Home.

She enjoyed all of her family gatherings, picnics and really enjoyed the 4th of July.  She liked to attend parades, dance and travel especially to Canada.

Alice loved all sports, especially Nebraska football, volleyball and baseball and also Kansas City Royals baseball.  She attended Nebraska football games into her 80’s.  She also loved to raise plants and flowers.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul, the Red Hats, Breakfast Club, Monthly Brunch Club, Danish Brotherhood in Grand Island, and the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 of St. Paul.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Terrie Bredthauer of LaVista, NE, Jim and Sylvia Mayne of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, and Alan and Candie Mayne of Vancover, WA; two daughters, Cyndee Heedum of Millard and Sharon Jenks of Sunnyvale, CA; six grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Janet Jacobsen of Hiawatha, KS; a sister, Harriet Nielsen of Dannebrog and a sister-in-law, Burdette Jacobsen of Grand Island.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill Bredthauer and Bill Mayne; one brother, Lester Jacobsen; one sister, Gladys Stinson; and a son-in-law, Bob Jenks.
