Arnold Kyhn

August 30, 1923 ~ July 4, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old

           Arnold C. Kyhn, 92, of Boelus died Monday, July 4, 2016 at his home near Boelus.

          Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.  Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate.  Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog with military honors by the Schipman Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus.

          Visitation will be on Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

          Memorials are suggested to the Boelus Fire Department or the Dannebrog-Boelus EMT’s.

          Mr. Kyhn was born August 30, 1923 in Arnold, NE to Vigo and Astrid (Keldsen) Kyhn.

          When Arnold was 2 years old his family moved to a farm east of Boelus, then moving to a farm southeast of Farwell.  Arnold attended and graduated from Boelus High School in 1941.

          He was united in marriage to Grace Reimers on May 9, 1945 in St. Paul.

          Arnold entered the United States Army shortly after his marriage in 1945, receiving his discharge in 1946.

          Being active in farming all of his life, upon return from the service the couple moved to a farm north of Boelus.  In 1955 they moved to Syracuse where they lived until 1969, moving back to a farm southwest of Boelus, living near Boelus for the remainder of his life.

          He was active in getting DCB baseball started.  He served on the county legion service committee for over 30 years.  He was proud of the fact that he had the first Grand Champion Shorthorn steer at the St. Joseph County, Indiana fair.  He was also active in the Otoe and Howard County Lions Clubs.

          He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Dannebrog, the Schipman Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus, Antique Tractor Club, and Sod House Society.

          He dearly loved and was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

          Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Char Kyhn of Boelus; a daughter and son-in-law, Margery and James Lauer of Kearney; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, May Vance of Grand Island.

          He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace on February 25, 2014; a son, Laverne; a daughter, Genevieve; two brothers, Harold and Lloyd Kyhn and a sister, Verna McKoski.
