Burton "Burt" W. Paulsen

January 18, 1914 ~ November 14, 2015 (age 101) 101 Years Old

          Burton “Burt” W. Paulsen, 101, of Palmer died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

          Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.  Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.  Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

          Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church in Palmer.

          Memorials are suggested to the Palmer EMT’s, Fire Department or the Rose Hill Cemetery.

          Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements

Mr. Paulsen was born January 18, 1914 in St. Paul to Glen and Viola (Hanisch) Paulsen.

 Burt attended and graduated from Cushing Consolidated School in 1934.

He was baptized May 2, 1943 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cushing.

Burt was united in marriage to Alvana Helser on December 1, 1939 in Grand Island.

As a young many he worked on the Fred Forbes farm and then at Western Land Roller Co. in Hastings from 1939 until 1942.  

In 1942 the couple moved to a farm north of Palmer.  He was involved and lived on the farm until moving into Brookefield Park in St. Paul in January 2013 where he lived until the time of his death.

The couple enjoyed traveling.  They traveled to all 50 states, driving to all of the lower 48 states.  He loved playing cards, fishing and hunting.

For many years on Tuesdays the family got together to play cards and eat pizza.

Burt and Alvana attended many dances at the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer and the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island.

Survivors include his wife, Alvana, living at Brookefield Park in St. Paul; five sons and daughters-in-law, James and Deniece Paulsen of Central City; Robert and Jette Paulsen of Port Orchard, WA, Alan and Melodee Paulsen of Grand Island, Larry and Diane Paulsen of Palmer and Jack and Cindy Paulsen of St. Paul; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Jill Paulsen, Debbie and Jay Meyer, Eric and Julie Paulsen, Chris Paulsen, John and Megan Paulsen, Kiley and Joseph Palensky, Andrew and Mindy Paulsen, Ryan and Erin Paulsen, Shane Paulsen, Jared and Heather Paulsen, Courtney and Dave Sullivan, Heather and Loren Pearson, C.J. Scarborough, Missy and Mike Nelson, and Liz and Nick Busch; 41 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; one sister, Irene Pelican of Grand Island; a sister-in-law, Ellen Paulsen of Grand Island; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dean and Helen Helser of Huntsville, Alabama and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray Paulsen; sister and brother-in-law, Irma & Jim Pitcher; a brother-in-law, Stanley Pelican; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lola and Eldon “Brick” Smith.
