Donald Deininger, 95, of Aurora, formerly of the St. Paul and Elba areas died Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Don’s wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.
Memories are suggested to the Elba Community Center, Elba EMT’s or Fire Department or the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 Building Fund.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Don was born June 25, 1921 to George H. and Ethel (Collins) Deininger on the family farm east of St. Paul.
He attended District 15 school, then St. Paul High School, graduating in 1939.
He attended two winter short courses at the UNL Ag college, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for the duration and six months, serving 3 ½ years as aviation ordinance.
Don was united in marriage to Florence Baker on May 29, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. They had sixty-eight wonderful years together, celebrating their 50th anniversary with a trip to Iceland.
They lived 50 years on their Elba farm where they raised their three sons. He farmed and carried the Elba/Cotesfield mail route for over twenty-four years.
He had been an Elba volunteer fireman, was on the Howard County Extension Board, was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul, St. Paul Masonic Lodge #82 AF & AM, United Methodist Church and the National Rural Letter Carrriers Association.
On retirement, they spent six months or more every year for twenty-eight years in Brownsville, TX, then Harlington, TX as winter Texans, becoming permanent Texans the last nine years.
During these years, they did extensive traveling with camper caravans to Mexico, Canada and the USA, then traveled to six continents. Previous to this they had taken their sons on fishing trips and to many states and Canada.
He enjoyed family, traveling, fishing, hunting, bowling, football and attended most of his sons Elba football and basketball games. He had a close association and activities with his parents, sisters and family.
In 2012 due to poor health they moved to East Park Villa in Aurora to be near family. He entered the long-term care at the hospital in May 2016.
Survivors include his wife, Florence of Aurora; three sons, Daniel of Everett, WA, Roger and Laura of Hastings, and Wayne and Sue of Aurora; grandchildren, Kristine Deininger of Kansas City, Sheryl and Kyle Lubischer of Davey, Natalie and Lee Alley of Green Bay, and Evan Deininger of Seattle; two great-granddaughters of Davey; and one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Darold Jorgensen of St. Paul.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Warren Deininger and a sister, Marion Rumbolz.
