Erich Harbart

February 19, 1933 ~ January 25, 2016 (age 82) 82 Years Old

          Erich Harbart, 82, of St. Paul died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

          Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday January 30, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate.  Inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Fairdale Cemetery north of St. Paul.

          Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

          Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or the Arthritis Foundation.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Mr. Harbart was born February 19, 1933 in Dietershof, Germany to Rudolf and Emma (Biese) Harbart.

          Erich came to the United States in April 1950, sponsored by the George Schweers family from Ponca, NE.  He received his naturization papers on March 14, 1956.

          He worked as a telegrapher clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad. 

Erich was united in marriage to Ruby Stange on September 21, 1956 in Norfolk.

In 1956 they moved from Norfolk to Columbus before moving to Pickrell in 1960 and Central City in 1962. 

When the railroad closed the depots, he started a bookkeeping business.  They moved to Neligh in 1976 and was a bookkeeper for Asmussen International and then it became Kayton International.  He also was a Neligh city councilman for 10 years.

Erich served as the treasurer for the Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh.

The couple moved to St. Paul in 2009 where Erich served as church treasurer for Christ Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed playing cards, working on his computer, bookkeeping and even with his handicap, he loved to golf.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby of St. Paul; a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Marianne Harbart of Sterling, CO; a daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Rodney Meyer of St. Paul; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Gene Shaw of Duluth, MN and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Harbart; and two sisters, Erma Eland and Erika White.
