Jo Jean Whetstone

          Jo Jean Whetstone, 73, of St. Paul died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at her home in St. Paul.

          Jo Jean’s wishes were that no services were to be held.

          Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Miss Whetstone was born August 14, 1943 in Omaha to Donald and Virgena (Ewing) Whetstone.

          She moved with her family to Grand Island at an early age.

          Jo Jean attended Grand Island schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1961.

          Her first job was working for the Civil Defense.  She was then employed by the 88 cent store in Grand Island, followed by employment at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant.

          She purchased the Liquor Mart in Grand Island which she operated for several years.

          She then was employed by the Eagle’s Club in Grand Island.

          She moved to Burwell and purchased a bar with her sister Joyce.  They operated it for a few years and then she opened an antique store call Boondock’s Closet in Burwell.

          Her last employment was at a convenience store and bait shop in Burwell.  She retired because of health issues.

          Jo Jean moved to St. Paul ten years ago where she has resided since.

          Over the years she enjoyed having cats.

          She was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Grand Island.

          Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Randy Schurer of Palmer and Janice and Jerry Wynn of Omaha; nieces and nephews, Tim McKoski, Jennifer Schamp and Shannon Taylor; and nineteen great nieces and nephews.

          She was preceded in death by her parents.
