Marjorie A. Tesmer

          Marjorie A. Tesmer, 96, of St. Paul died Sunday, November 01, 2015 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

          Mrs. Tesmer’s wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.  Her final disposition will be in Minnesota.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Mrs. Tesmer was born December 30, 1918 in Blackduck, Minnesota to John and Hulda (Maesse) Thullen.

          She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Blackduck, MN.

          She graduated from Blackduck High School in June 1936.  She entered the Pacific School of Beauty Culture in Portland, OR in 1937.  Upon receiving her beautician’s license, she worked for one year at the Donna Jean Beauty Salon in Portland, OR.  When she returned to Minnesota, she obtained a Minnesota beautician’s license.

          In June 1942, Marjorie graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  Her majors were English and Speech.  She taught high school English in Minnesota, Colorado and Nebraska.

          She was united in marriage to Floyd A. Tesmer in 1946.

          The couple made their home in St. Paul where he was already established in his own business, Tesmer Electric and G.E. Appliances.  She helped in the store until Floyd’s death in 1990.

          General Electric awarded Marjorie and Floyd many trips; among them were a week in San Francisco and New Orleans and two weeks through the Pacific Northwest on to Banff and Lake Louise.

          Each year in late August they enjoyed two weeks in Northern Minnesota with their three sons.  They also visited Disneyland near Los Angeles with their sons in August 1959.  Their son Steve won this all expense paid trip.

          Marjorie and her sister Esther Baker enjoyed traveling.  They joined a group tour of the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, and Maui and went on a group cruise to Alaska.  A year later they traveled with a group tour from Minnesota for a month’s tour through the Canadian Provinces and up the Alaskan Highway into Alaska.  Dr. Floyd Tesmer joined them for a week vacation in Acapulco and Mexico City.  Marjorie and her son later toured New England as well.

          Upon retiring, Marjorie and her grandson Nick Tesmer enjoyed a Globus Tour group.  They took a three-week tour of England, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy and Greece.  Marjorie fractured her leg in Sorrento, Italy and became acquainted with socialized medicine in a hospital in Greece. 

          Next year she accompanied Marion Bahensky on a Globus three-week tour of Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

          In 1966 the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce awarded Marjorie the Community Service Award.  In 1988 she received the Employee of the Year Award from the Howard County Hospital where she was employed for 23 years.  In 1988 she received the Caring Kind Employee of the Year Award from the Nebraska Hospital Association and a congratulatory letter from Virginia Smith, a Nebraska congresswoman.

          Besides traveling Marjorie enjoyed children, poetry, flowers, politics, Shakespeare and Michener. 

          She was a member of the Saint Paul Book Club.  Marjorie enjoyed 5 years as a Cub Scout Den Mother.  Her husband helped her with the scouts and also helped her organize a St. Paul Square Dance Club.  She enjoyed cards at Parkside Plaza.

          Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Floyd S. and Rosana Tesmer of Richmond, VA, William A. Tesmer of Los Angeles and Thomas P. and Mary Tesmer of St. Paul; a grandson, Nick T. Tesmer and his wife, Jonesa, a granddaughter, Paige Tesmer; and a great-grandson, Thomas C. Tesmer.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; sister, Esther Baker; brother, Arthur Thullen; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Tesmer.
