Marlene M Ewers

November 15, 1949 ~ June 12, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Marlene M. Ewers, 66, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul.  Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate.  Interment will be in the Elba Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ewers was born November 15, 1949 in St. Paul to Charles and Helen (Jares) Tuma.

Marlene was baptized in the Elba United Methodist Church.

She was raised in Elba and attended Elba Public Schools where she graduated in 1968.  She then attended school in Grand Island to study cosmetology.

Marlene was united in marriage to Dan Ewers on August 9, 1969 in Elba.

To this union three children were born; Doug, Brandon and Brenda.  The couple made their home in Elba, St. Paul, and O’Neill.

After the couple separated, Marlene moved to Aurora and St. Paul where she worked as a caregiver.  After moving from St. Paul, she moved to Grand Island.  Marlene had worked as a cosmetologist before becoming a receptionist at Tiffany Square Care Center for several years.  During her work at Tiffany Square she was all about hospitality and helping people.  She was a perfect example of the phrase, “the hostess with the mostest”.  She worked at Brodkey Jewelry until it closed and then at Howard’s Jewelry, both in Grand Island.

Marlene loved her family, putting their needs first.  She always looked forward to family functions and watching her grandchildren grow up.

She loved to travel and spend time with her friend, Marty.  She also enjoyed fishing, spending time at the river and Nebraska football.

Marlene was a member of the St. Paul Jaycees, serving as president, Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119 and she was always active in the different PTO groups.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Nicole Ewers of Grand Island and Brandon and McKayla Ewers of Shubert, NE; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Ewers-Nordhues and her husband, Shawn of Grand Island; nine grandchildren, Will, Caylee, Jayme, Dalton, Dayton, Daisha, Daphne, Dalany, and Spencer; a very special friend and companion, Marty Callahan of Greeley; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlotte and Gary Rasmussen of Elba and Lori Brouse of Bellevue.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
