Mary Nell Linnemeyer

October 10, 1931 ~ October 17, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

          Mary Nell Linnemeyer, 85, of Dannebrog, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17th.  She was a resident at the Grand Island NE. Veteran’s home at the time of her passing.

          Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Cairo.  Reverend Cathryn Love and Mary Nell’s grandchildren will officiate.  Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Curtis Cemetery in Curtis, NE.

          Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.

          Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Mary Nell was born October 10, 1931, in Curtis Nebraska to Everett and Hazel “Toots” (Florom) Bybee.  She was raised in Curtis, where her parents owned and operated the Lakeview Hotel.  During her high school years, Mary Nell helped in the hotel and also worked at the Star Theatre, selling tickets and concessions.  Mary Nell worked at Phelps store selling clothing and then at ASCS Office, both in Curtis.  She was active in high school participating in band, orchestra, chorus and drama.  She graduated from the University of Nebraska, School of Agriculture in 1949.  After graduation she taught school for a short time. 

          Mary Nell and Lewis Linnemeyer were united in marriage on June 14, 1953.  Lewie worked for MO Valley Construction as a bridge superintendent; the couple lived in many towns throughout Nebraska during their 53 years of marriage. They moved to Cairo in 1964 and then to Dannebrog in 1969.  Mary Nell worked several jobs in the area; she was the popcorn lady at Fonner Park for many years. She also worked in Dannebrog at Johnson’s Grocery, Mel’s Service Station, the elevator and then worked for Bullet Weights in Alda.  After retirement, Mary Nell and Lewie spent time traveling and enjoyed several winters in Texas.

          Mary Nell was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Happy Homemakers extension club and a member of a card club, where she enjoyed playing pitch.  Mary Nell enjoyed making crafts, sewing, bowling; she loved to collect knick-knacks and collected Avon.  She was a loyal Husker fan and wore her Nebraska colors with pride. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family; she especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

          Those left to celebrate her life and remember her lovingly include her children: Karen and Steve Allen of Kansas City, MO, Linda and Scott Davis of Maywood, NE and Steve Linnemeyer and Barb Wojtalewicz of Grand Island; grandchildren, Brian (Tamara) Lynn, Brad (Michelle) Lynn, Kelly (Randy) Glenn, Benjamin (Brittany) Lynn, Heath Allen, Jason Davis, Andrea (Blake) Wiggins, Brooke (Brandon) Richardson, Chelsey (Blake) Meier, Seth Linnemeyer, Travis Linnemeyer; great grandchildren, Cooper and Sofia Lynn, Zachary, Isabelle, Grace and Nathan Lynn, Alyssa Day, Carter and Ella Glenn, Henry Lynn, Jakeb, Cade, Ty, Luc and Beau Davis, Baren Wiggins, Mason and Conner Richardson, Prestin, Eva and Deacon Meier; a sister, Leona (Jack) Eriksen of Boelus and many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.

          Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Linnemeyer; parents; and brothers, Gene and Robert Bybee.
