Mrs. Jares was born July 10, 1920 in St. Paul to Pete and Frances (Kudnra) Sevcik.

She attended District 27 School and then St. Paul Schools where she graduated in 1938.  Mildred then attended Kearney State College.

Mildred taught for 7 years in rural schools, Districts 46, 12, and 27 before teaching in the Elba grade school.

She was united in marriage to Edward Jares on May 2, 1946 in St. Paul.

Mildred and Edward were inseparable for the next 58 years. Besides farming right next to her husband she was an amazing cook who always made sure dinner was served on time. From jarring her own pickles to hand picking fresh strawberries for that amazing made-from-scratch angel food cake. She loved to play cards, listen to music and regardless fast or slow, if there was music there was dancing.

In August 1974 they purchased an acreage near St. Paul and continued to do some farming for 10 years.  They then moved into St. Paul and in 1997 they moved into Parkside Plaza where she became known to everyone as the “Muffin Lady.” Regardless if you were the mailman, the pharmacist, or just a friendly face, you left with muffins!

Her husband Edward died on July 16, 2004.  Mildred continued to live in St. Paul until June 2013 when she moved to Louisville, KY to live close to her daughter Mary.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Bill Armagost of Lexington, NE, Mary and Norb Matte and Betty Johansen of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; three grandchildren; two brothers, George and Emil Sevcik; a sister, Henrietta Hill and a son-in-law, Jim Johansen.
