Norine A. Nielsen

March 25, 1925 ~ June 11, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

          Norine A. Nielsen died peacefully June 11, 2017 and went to be with the Lord. She had been a patient at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

          Her wishes were to be cremated with family graveside services to be held at a later date.

          Memorials can be made to the Boelus Fire Department and Boelus EMT’s.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Norine was born March 25, 1925 to Minnie (Seifert) and Joe Young and raised on the family farm three miles west of Boelus. At the age of three Norine lost her father, leaving her mother to raise five children and manage the family farm.

          She attended Soulville country school, graduated from Boelus High School in 1942 and was united in marriage to Glen Nielsen. Born to them were two daughters and two infant sons (both deceased).

          Beside one year while Glen was in the Marine Corp, and one year while he worked in Wyoming, Norine spent her entire life in the Boelus area.          Norine was a part-time clerk at the Boelus Post Office, loan clerk at the Grand Island Post Office, city carrier in Ravenna for 1 year; returned as full-time postal clerk of the Boelus post office and retired after 29 years of service. She and Glen also owned and operated a Laundromat and trailer park in Boelus.

          Norine and Glen both enjoyed hunting & fishing and travelling in their motor home visiting many places, including Pike Haven in S. Dakota and Devils Lake in Minnawaken, N. Dakota. They spent one summer touring Canada and Alaska.

          Norine enjoyed yard work, reading, sewing, embroidery, quilting (making baby quilts for her 14 grandchildren), playing solitaire, watching TV and her latest hobby senior coloring books. She attended the grand children's and great grand children's school activities and ballgames; and took care of the grandchildren and great grandchildren when they were small as long as her health permitted.

          Norine was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 201 and the National Association of Postmasters.

          Norine is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ann and Irvin Baldwin of Cairo and Donna Britton of Davis, WV; six grandchildren and spouses, Patricia and Larry Gorecki, Curt and Heidi Baldwin all of Dannebrog; Randy and Brenda Baldwin of Sutton; Jeff Baldwin of Grand Island, Jimmy and Michelle Britton, Morgantown, WV, and Daniel and Patty Britton, Independence, WV; fourteen great grandchildren, Branden, Makenz, and Kolby Gorecki, Marty and Ivan Baldwin, Tyler, Nathan and Katie Baldwin, Macy and Amber Baldwin, Caleb and Joshua Britton and twins Victoria (Tori) and Malia (Lia) Britton; nieces and nephews.

          Norine was proceeded in death by her parents; and in-laws; husband Glen; two infant sons, Joseph and Richard; one son-in-law, Jack Britton; two brothers, William and Edward Young, and twin sisters Vema Palacz & Vera Stoeger,
