Phyllis A. Coons

          Phyllis A. Lemburg-Coons, daughter of Chris L. and Olga (Pedersen) Christensen, was born June 29, 1929 in Dannebrog.  She entered into rest on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island at the age of 87 years.

          Phyllis was raised in Dannebrog and attended Dannebrog Schools where she graduated in 1946.

          Phyllis was baptized and confirmed in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.

          She was united in marriage to Dale R. Lemburg on March 2, 1947 in Dannebrog.

           Dale and Phyllis lived and farmed north of Boelus.  They also raised hogs, had a dairy operation and tested milk.   When her husband had a heart attack in 1976, Phyllis began working at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.  Dale died in 1987.

          Phyllis married Wayne Coons on December 28, 1997 in Dannebrog.  The couple lived in St. Paul.  Wayne died in 2006 and Phyllis continued to live in St. Paul until 2009 when she moved to Grand Island.

          Phyllis was always busy.  She loved to bake bread and cinnamon rolls.  If she wasn’t baking, she was canning produce from their large garden, butchering chickens or cleaning.  She had a love for ice cream that she passed on to the entire family.  She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and actively involved in church life, women’s circle, bible study and church council.

          Her best virtues were her patience, sense of humor, love of family and her faith.  She had a gentle way of providing guidance and lending an ear.  She was slow to criticize but quick with a pat on the back.  She led by example.  Also, Phyllis loved watching sports.

          Phyllis moved to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island in January 2017.

          Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Deb Lemburg of Omaha, Richard and Kim Lemburg of Clarkson and Steve and Dana Lemburg of Cairo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Tim O’Neill of Grand Island and Sharon and David Fries of Cairo; eleven grandchildren and spouses, Tim and Amy O’Neill, Eric O’Neill, Amy and Judd Chatelain, Casey and Jess Fries, Bailey Lemburg, Korbin Lemburg, Megan Lemburg, Matt & Kelly Lemburg, Heather Lemburg, Nathan Lemburg and MaKenna Lemburg; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jeannie Lemburg of Boelus.

          She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Dale and Wayne Coons; a daughter, Karen Powers; and a brother, Dale Christensen and a sister, Charlotte Koch.
