Shirley J. Bremer

          Shirley J. Bremer, 78, of Scotia went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 9, 2017.

          Services to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. Reverend Mark Middendorf will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia.

            Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Shirley was born on June 8, 1939 to Albert and Mildred (Bowman) Dwinell, on a ranch near Bartlett. She was raised on the ranch and attended a rural school. Shirley graduated from Bartlett High School in 1956 and then taught in a country school near Bartlett.

          Shirley was united in marriage to Harold Bremer on March 10, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Bartlett. The couple then made their home on their family farm west of Scotia where they raised their family.

          Shirley loved to read, bake, sew, and garden. She raised outstanding tomatoes and canned her own produce. She was a talented landscape artist and painted many beautiful pictures. She enjoyed roller skating, dancing, and listening to music. Shirley volunteered as a 4H leader and loved teaching kids to sew. She liked to travel and play cards with friends and neighbors.

          Family and her grandchildren were very special to her. She loved to visit and have family gatherings. Shirley was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School and volunteered for many church activities. Her faith and love for Jesus Christ were very important to her and she shared her faith with family and friends.

          Survivors include her husband, Harold of Scotia; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jannis Bremer of Manhattan, KS; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Diane and Dan Preister of Genoa, Marilyn and Dave Meline of Eagle, CO, and Barb and Steve Prow of Omaha; thirteen grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Pat Dwinell of Grand Island; five sisters, and three brothers-in-law, Jean Poss of Elba, Bertha and Robert Vogeler of Scotia, Alice (Donner) and Floyd Strom of Edgewood, NM, JoAnn Dwinell of Scottsbluff, and Betty and Ben Schamp of Ord. She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Karen; and two brothers, Dean and Ronald Dwinell.
