Warren G. Petersen

July 6, 1947 ~ January 9, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Warren G. Petersen, 69, of Grand Island was called home on Monday, January 09, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island.  Reverend Edgar Schambach, Jr. will officiate.  Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors at graveside by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the K-9 comfort dog at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island.

Mr. Petersen was born in St. Paul on July 6, 1947 to Garrett and Arlene (Jensen) Petersen.

He was raised in Cushing on his family’s farm.

Warren graduated from St. Paul High School in 1965.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1968 until 1972 including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Warren was united in marriage to Patricia Muller on January 31, 1970 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

The couple lived in St. Paul until moving to Grand Island in 1974.  To this union two children were born, Chad and Heather.

Warren worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2007.

Warren was slow to anger, quick to praise, and the first person you thought of when someone mentioned a “good man”.  He had an air of peace about him which made spending time with him comforting and effortless.  He loved his family dearly and was always there to support and care for any of them in their time of need.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island, the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul and the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island.

He enjoyed gardening and farming on his acreage, woodworking, golfing, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Stacey (Miller) Petersen of Madison, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Cory Gearhart of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Dillon Miller of Lincoln, Allyson Petersen of Madison, GA and Samantha, Adriana and Maximus Gearhart of Grand Island; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Cook of Bettendorf, IA and Betty and Dale Burback of Lincoln.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 38 years, Patricia who died on November 3, 2008; and an infant brother.
