Wilma A. Poss

          Wilma A. Poss, 101, of St. Paul died Sunday, September 04, 2016 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

          Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul.  Reverend Momo Larmena, Jr. will officiate.  Auxiliary services will be presented by Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119.

          Inurnment will be at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

          Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church in St. Paul.       

          In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist, Howard County Medical Center Foundation, or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.     

          Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

          Wilma was born March 5, 1915 in Howard County near Cotesfield to Henry and Merna (Thayer) Payton.

          Wilma attended Cotesfield Schools before living in various place with her family before settling on a farm between Cotesfield and Scotia.

          She was united in marriage to Jess Poss on June 1, 1932 in St. Paul.

          The couple lived east of Cotesfield where they farmed.  They lived there until the early 1950’s when they moved to a farm south of Scotia and then later moving into Scotia.  In 1975 they moved into St. Paul where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

          Wilma’s husband died on August 19, 1991.

          Wilma enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and volunteering at the Nebraska Veterans Home and Hospital in Grand Island, the St. Paul Senior Center, Howard County Medical Center and at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.  She was also a strong supporter during the development and placement of the Veterans markers and flags on the Howard County Courthouse lawn.

          She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119, Howard County Medical Center Auxiliary and the Eight and Forty.

          Survivors include nieces and nephews.

          She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jess; three brothers, George, Oce, and Floyd Payton; and five sisters, Pearl Elvers, Laura Getz, Byrda Farr, Della Kinney, and Florence Grotz.
