Betty J. Schlueter

August 7, 1922 ~ September 1, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

           Betty J. Schlueter, 95, of St. Paul, formerly of Palmer, died Friday, September 01, 2017 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

          Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.  Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate.  Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

          Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

          Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

          Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

          Betty was born August 7, 1922 in Merrick County between Palmer and Archer to Richard and Louise (Wegner) Weller.

          She attended school in Palmer where she graduated from high school in 1940.

          Betty was united in marriage to Alfred “Pete” Schlueter on August 17, 1941 in Palmer.

          The couple had three children, Gretchen, Pam and Bill.

          The couple farmed south of Palmer for many years.  Besides being a farm wife, Betty raised chickens and many other animals.

          The couple then moved into Palmer.

          At the time of her husband’s death on September 30, 1996, they had celebrated 55 years of marriage.

          Betty lived in St. Paul the past few years, most recently at Brookefield Park.

          She loved flowers, animals, and gardening.  She also helped with Pete’s woodworking hobby.

          Betty was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer where she was very active in Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School and Bible School.  While in Palmer she was a member of a local extension club.

          Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Gretchen and Darrell Elkins of Chambers and Pamela Bandt of York; a son, Bill Schlueter of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and twenty great great-grandchildren.

          She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; a grandson, William Bandt; a brother, Merton Weller; four sisters, Lauris “Toots” Karre, Betty’s twin Bonnie Kraft, Jocelyn Chandler and an infant sister Shirley Weller; and a son-in-law, Jim Petersen.
