Gary Pichler Obituary

Gary E. Pichler, 70, of Winside, NE died Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Norfolk.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.  Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palme

There will be a time to greet the family on Sunday, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Mortuary in Norfolk.

Memorials suggested to Faith Regional Health & Hospice Services. 

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is assisting the family.

Gary was born on October 13, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Harvey and Luella (Dallegge) Pichler. 

He attended Grand Island Senior High and Community College Hastings.  On January 1, 1970 he married Sally Schlueter at St. John’s Lutheran church in Palmer. 

The couple made their home in the Palmer area for 15 years, moving to Winside, Nebraska in July, 1989.  

Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972 and was stationed at Tripler Medical Hospital in Honolulu, Oahu as a medic.  He was a member of Palmer Legion Post 120 and Winside Legion Post 252. 

Gary was employed at Island Supply Welding Company in Grand Island, Nebraska and in 1989 transferred with the company to the Norfolk, Nebraska branch as Manager until his retirement in December 2015. 

In his early years, Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother and father.  He loved riding motorcycles and restored his 1968 Triumph. Gary enjoyed music and playing his guitar while his mother was playing the piano. He also enjoyed traveling to Seattle with Sally to see his daughters and their families.  Gary was known for his positive attitude, warm heart and helping hands.

He is survived by his wife Sally, daughters Kelly (Brian) Nelson, Kari (Jeff) Washburn and granddaughters, Addison and Peyton Washburn, Sister and Brother in-law Nancy (Schlueter) and Rick Etherton, Sister in-law Sandy Schlueter, and nieces and nephews Erin, Darin, Sydney, Andy, Jake, Amanda, Kinren, Jackie, Stephanie, and Jennifer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Owen, his brother-in-law, Jack Schlueter, and mother in-law Helen Schlueter.
