Kenneth Lee Inman, Sr.

          Kenneth Lee Inman, Sr., 82, of Wolbach, NE died December 16, 2017, at the Grand Island Veteran’s Medical Center.

          Visitation will be held Friday, December 22nd, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach.

          Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23rd, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach, NE at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marcia Dorn officiating. Burial will be held in the Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach with military services by American Legion Post #236.  Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is assisting the family.  

          Mr. Inman was born October 28, 1935 at the family’s home in Leonidas, Michigan, the son of Elgin, Sr. and Vivian (Hurley) Inman.

          He attended Colon Public School at Colon, Michigan reaching the 11th grade before quitting and living with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hurley at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He went to work at a drycleaner business. In 1952 he joined the United States Navy where he served in the Korean War on board the ships of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and The Midway. He was honorably discharged in March of 1955, due to his father’s illness.

          Mr. Inman returned home where he was employed by the railroad.

          On September 19, 1959 he was united in marriage to Gwynneth Day at Sherwood, Michigan. To this union four children were born, Kenny, Jr., Dodie, Kalvin and Keith.

          The couple lived in Manistique, Michigan for a time before they moved to the Pine Creek Reservation near Fulton, Michigan. In 1965 they moved to Orchard, Nebraska where Mr. Inman was employed by a rancher. From there they moved to Atkinson where he continued in the same line of employment. In 1968 they moved to North Loup where he was employed by Vernon Thomas as a hired hand. The couple divorced in 1970.

          On May 19, 1973 he was united in marriage to Shirley (Greek) Stoffel at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach where the couple lived their entire married life. To this union one daughter, Kendra, was born. The couple was married for 44 years.

          Mr. Inman was employed as the Village maintenance, water/sewer man for 38 years and retired in 2012. He also was employed as the Village’s policeman. The couple owned and operated The Mustang Corral in Wolbach for a year.

          One of Mr. Inman’s accomplishments was receiving his GED in his 40s.

          He served in the National Guards and Reserves from 1974 until 1995. He also had three sons who served in the same unit.

          One of Mr. Inman’s highlights in his life was the carving and painting of a totem pole he and the Wolbach Boy Scouts created out of a utility pole that was erected for a time in Wolbach.

          He was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Ray Mapes American Legion Post #26, where he served as their Chaplain for many years, Wolbach Community Club where he was a past president, Wolbach Cemetery Association board member, Boy Scout leader, Wolbach Fire Department and he was one of the first EMTs of the department. He was also a Santa helper for many years and volunteered many years helping with the Deep Pit barbecue during Wolbach Days.

          He especially enjoyed his family, woodworking, especially on Nebraska and Native American work, hunting, watching westerns, Christmas lights and being a chaplain.

          He is survived by his wife, Shirley Inman of Wolbach; his children, Reynetta and Gary Studley of Wolbach, Andy Stoffel of Ferris, Texas, Cyanne and Lee Hosey of Mead, Colorado, Cheryl and Steve McIntyre of Glenwood, Iowa, Kenny Inman, Jr. of Athens, Michigan, Sandra Stoffel and Ted Rother of Wolbach, Dodie and Jay Thompson of Wolbach, Donita and Scott Green of Mesa, Arizona, Kalvin Inman and Tammy Scheer of Grand Island, Keith and Margaret Inman of Omaha, Randy and Miki Stoffel of Aurora, Colorado, Tina and Shawn Luedders of Waverly and Kendra and Todd Hipsag of Lincoln; 28 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Rexford of White Pigeon, Michigan; one brother and sister-in-law, Elgin, Jr. and Deloris Inman of Leonidas, Michigan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Myron and Donna Rother of Wolbach and Dick and Cookie Greek of Brule.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LeRoy Inman and one grandson, Coleman Hipsag, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cyrus and Wilma Greek.
