Mary was born December 16, 1916 in Buffalo County to Joseph and Mary (Dvoracek) Trubl.

Mary lost her mom when she was 3 weeks old and her aunt and uncle took her in and raised her on a farm west of Elba.

She was baptized in the Catholic faith.

Mary attended country school at District 29 near Dannevirke.

She was united in marriage to Charles Kment on June 6, 1946 in St. Paul.

The couple lived and farmed northwest of Cotesfield where they raised chickens, hogs, cattle and sheep.  Every year she would raise 1000 chickens, selling 700 for fryers and keeping 300 for layers, selling eggs and cream to the creamery in Ord.  She also helped on the farm by checking cattle on her pony with her dog riding with her on the pony.

In 1981, they moved to St. Paul to make their home where they lived for the remainder of their married life and Mary began working for the Uptown Grill Café in St. Paul and Delicious Foods in Grand Island where she worked until 2002.  She then began working at the Sweet Shoppe until her retirement.  Her son, Martin took care of her for two years before she entered the nursing home.  She loved to talk Czech to the people at the nursing home.

Charles passed away January 11, 2000.  The celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 2, 1996.

Mary loved children and she did babysitting and cleaned houses in St. Paul.  Mary and Charles loved to travel, going to Colorado, Iowa and Missouri.  She loved polka music and going to dances.  She didn’t miss a Sunday listening to polka music on the radio.

She had a green thumb, raising a garden and selling her produce.

Family was very important to Mary, loving visits from her grandchildren and step-grandchildren and always having a treat for them.  She loved and could recite many nursery rhymes.

She was known for her fried chicken, kolaches, lemon pie and cinnamon rolls that she sold.
