Pauline was born on June 24, 1923 to William & Catherine (Hansen) Kohl and was raised on a farm near Clarks, Nebraska.  She was the youngest of eight children, and was 13 pounds at birth.  She was very proud of this.  Starting at a young age, she worked with her family on the farm and in the fields.  She was very good at driving teams of horses to do field work.

She loved to dance.  She and her brothers and sisters would go to surrounding towns to dance on Friday’s and Saturday’s.  At one of those dances, she met her love of her life, Jerome.  At the time she didn’t think that four months later she would marry him, but she did.  They were united in marriage on March 12, 1945 in Richmond, VA.  They soon started their family of eight children.

They lived in several places but finally made their home on a farm near St. Libory.  They worked hand in hand from morning until the time they went to bed, doing chores, milking cows, working in the fields, and raising kids.  They enjoyed vegetable gardening which was very successful until Jerome’s passing.  Pauline remained on the farm with her oldest son, Jerry until she left this earth.

She loved her family and they were always on her mind.  She worried about them until the day she passed away.  She loved birds, flowers, fishing, hunting, and especially just being outside.

She collected porcelain dolls, cookie jars, and salt & pepper shakers.  She loved nick nacks.

She left behind one sister, Bess Peterson of Clarks, NE; her children, Jerry Hemmer of St. Libory, Janita & Gary Stegner of Omaha, Kebbon “Butch” & Peg Hemmer of Burwell, Kathyrn Cramer of Grand Island, Michael and Katie Hemmer of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Bess Marie Hemmer of Doniphan; Mark & Katina Hemmer of St. Libory; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren;  1 great-great-grandchild; & numerous extended family.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Bette Monson, Elsie Grosch, Martha Darnell; 3 brothers, Art Kohl, William Kohl, Jr., John Kohl, Sr.; infant daughter, Michelle; grandson, Patrick Hemmer; & great-granddaughter, Bailey Crumrine.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She touched so many hearts in her 94 years of life.
