Albert J. Meyer, 94 of St. Paul, formerly of Palmer, died on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Brookfield Park in St. Paul.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Pastor John Dolittle will be officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in Palmer. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.
Albert was born in Burwell; however, his family soon moved to Merrick County, where he grew up in the Archer and Palmer area. Albert graduated from Palmer High School in 1948. Albert was united in marriage to Darlene Sorensen of Palmer on June 13, 1954, in Dannebrog. They lived in Palmer for 63 years and were married for 66 wonderful years. They were crowned King & Queen of the Grundlovsfest in Dannebrog in 2017. They were the grand marshals of the Palmer Fall Festival. They were long time members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. Albert served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Albert began his career in Palmer working for Dinsdale’s. Albert worked at the Gee Service Station in Palmer starting in 1955 and later became the sole owner of Meyer Oil Company for over 40 years before retiring. Albert also served as Palmer’s Mayor for 10 years. His hobbies included collecting coins, gambling, traveling with his family, going to high school athletic events, along with attending March Madness with his sons and grandson for 20 plus years. He enjoyed listening to polka music and loved to decorate for Christmas.
In November of 2017, Albert and Darlene moved into the Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island, where they enjoyed the company of many. Darlene passed away on November 3, 2020. Albert then moved to Brookfield Park in St. Paul.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Meyer of Grand Island, Steven & Jamie Meyer of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Mark Washburn of Grand Island; grandchildren, Brandon Meyer and Joy Anderson of Omaha, Lindsay Meyer and Isidro Palma of Scottsdale AZ, Ashley Washburn of Lincoln, and Justin Washburn and Lily Snyder of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Kristian Washburn, Maverick Washburn, Nicolle Washburn, all of Omaha; sister, Wanda Beavers of Texas; brother, Franklin Carr of Texas; sisters-in-law, Delores Goering of Grand Island and Dorothy Ruff of Broomfield, CO; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Meyer; wife, Darlene Meyer; two brothers, Coy Carr and Johnny Carr; and brothers-in-law, Darold Goering and Roger Ruff.
