Carl D. “Uncle Cobb” Vang, 87, of St. Paul, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his home with his daughters by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. Pastor Bob Carlson will be officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Carl was born on August 5, 1938, to Lloyd and Betty (Jolls) Vang in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was raised in Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School. He served in the United States Navy and was proud to serve as a chief for 23 years and 9 months. After his retirement, he served on the honor guard for funerals and other military functions. He was a member of the Burton-Beyer American Legion Club - Post 120 in Palmer, NE. He worked many jobs and was a jack of all trades. He farmed, worked in mines, and worked for the county roads in Utah. He drove a semi-truck for many years and was a lead at JBS. He did some carpentry work and worked for the state of Nebraska.
He was united in marriage to Catherine “Cathy” on July 20, 1962, in Moab, Utah. The couple relocated to Nebraska in 1964. His hobbies included playing the lottery, board games, BINGO (his lucky number was B-10), going for walks, fishing, socializing, and sharing stories. Those who knew Carl will always remember his sense of humor.
Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Bill Arnold of Doniphan, Kerry and Alfredo Garcia of Grand Island; bonus daughter, Nicole of Grand Island; grandchildren, Aleece, Kameron, Laisha, Ciara, Mario, Alfredo, Steph, and Kim; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Rynio of Cedar City, Utah, Nettie Geiger of St. Paul, Sue and Neal Lemburg of Grand Island; Glen Kolar of Wolbach; many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cathy Vang; and sister, Shirley Kolar.
