Jimmy Dale "Jim" Evans, 59, of St. Paul died Monday, March 29, 2010 at Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Per Jim's wishes, those attending the memorial service are asked to dress casual. There will be no visitation as Mr. Evans has been cremated. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Baseball Program.

Jim Evans was born April 25, 1950 in North Platte, Nebraska to Francis J. and Beryl Evelyn (Walker) Evans. When he was a young child the family moved to Ogallala. He attended school in Ogallala and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1968. He attended Chadron State College and graduated in May of 1973.

He married Ruth Elaine Yount on May 13, 1972 in Denver, Colorado. To this union two sons were born. Joshua Michael was born February 8, 1977 and Jon Matthew on April 28, 1982.

He started teaching in St. Paul Public Schools in January of 1973. The first three years he was an assistant football coach and was head coach of the Jr. High wrestling team. He was offered a bus driving job and never went back to coaching. He drove a bus route along with teaching, until his retirement in May of 2009. He continued to substitute teach and drive a bus until ill health forced him to resign.

Survivors include his wife of St. Paul, sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Christy Evans of Lincoln and John and Stacie Evans of LaVista, Nebraska, two granddaughters, Kirsten Ann Ruhge and Annika J. Evans, brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Deb Evans of Chadron, father-in-law, Glenn Dale Yount of Fremont, brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Steve Hosch of Omaha, Larry and Peggy Yount, Ken and Jodi Yount, Marilyn and Rick LeGrande and Kevin and Lori Yount all of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Dora Evans, mother-in-law, Edna Yount and numerous uncles and aunts, including his beloved Uncle Dale.
