Leonard L. Spilinek

December 9, 1927 — September 8, 2012

Leonard L. Spilinek, 84, of Greeley formerly of Elba died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Greeley Care Home.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Inurnment will be held in the Elba Cemetery. A time to sign Leonard's guestbook and visit with the family will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Elba Fire Department, Elba Rescue Unit or the Elba Community Center.

Mr. Spilinek was born December 9, 1927 in Elba to Louis and Stacia (Matousek) Spilinek.

Leonard attended Elba schools where he graduated in 1946. He lived at home with his parents until they passed away.

Although he was somewhat handicapped, he worked hard and never complained. He worked on a farm east of Elba and other farm jobs and then was employed at the Farmers Elevator in Elba for many years. He hauled rafters for mobile homes from Aurora to Kansas. Leonard once went with a harvesting crew south into Texas and Oklahoma. His last employment was for the village of Elba where he helped take care of the streets and water.

Leonard moved to Heritage Living Center in St. Paul, then to the Golden Living Center in Grand Island and then to his current home in the Greeley Care Center.

He was a long time member of the Elba Fire Department.

Leonard loved to play cards and was very serious about it and he also worked crossword puzzles in the Omaha World Herald and numerous books that he would buy.

His friendship was recognized by many.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Teddy Spilinek of St. Paul

He is preceded in death by his parents; a infant sister, Marcella Spilinek; and a nephew, Craig Spilinek.
