Mary E. Scarborough, 71, of St. Paul died Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate. Interment will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Scarborough was born November 25, 1941 in Logan, Iowa to Lauren and Lucille (Oliver) Goodman.
Mary was baptized in the Church of Christ in Mondamin, Iowa.
Mary was raised and attended schools in Mondamin where she graduated in 1959. While she was attending school she worked in her parent's café©.
She met her future husband while he was working construction in Mondamin. She was united in marriage to Gale Scarborough on December 5, 1959 in Mondamin.
They lived in Mondamin until August 1961 when they moved to a farm near St. Paul. While her husband Gale was working construction they travel to several states.
While living in the St. Paul area, Mary worked in the Whale and Nesiba Cafes in St. Paul and also the Skagway Bakery. She also did a lot of work with her husband in their construction company, S & S Construction.
After her husband Gale died, Mary continued to live in St. Paul.
Mary loved to garden and can produce. She liked to cook and she and Gale liked to try new recipes. Mary also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and she bowled for many years.
Mary was a past member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119 of St. Paul. Mary had attended the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Lauren and Jennifer Scarborough of St. Paul; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Tracie and Don Dearmont and Beth and Shon Treat of St. Paul, Lori Magoon of Mobile, AL and Shana Berggren of St. Paul; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda McDowell of Omaha and a sister-in-law, Aretha Stevens of Mondamin, IA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale on March 5, 2005 and a brother, Lawrence Stevens.
