Mildred (Ruzicka) Young

Mildred Young, 97, died at Rose Lane Home, in Loup City on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

To honor Mildred’s requests, her body was cremated and there will not be a public visitation or service. Private Family Graveside Services will be held at the Soulville Cemetery near Rockville.  Father Richard Piontkowski will be presiding.  Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.  Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred was born November 22,1924, in Farwell to Charlie and Helen (Kucera) Ruzicka. She graduated from Dannebrog High School and Kearney Teachers College.

On May 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward Young at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Farwell.  They raised their children on the family farm near Rockville. Edward preceded her in death in 2010. With the help of family, she was able to remain on the farm.

Mildred was a one room schoolteacher for several years at Souleville. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockville and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafting, dancing, and collecting owls. Her greatest enjoyments in life were being with her family.  She enjoyed spending time baking and cooking with her grandchildren.  She especially enjoyed spending time talking and joking with her five great-granddaughters.

She is survived by her son, Joe Young & Kris Behrendt, of Boelus, daughter, Jana Vierk of Cairo; grandchildren & great-grandchildren, Holly Vierk & Chris Hillier of Austin TX, Ann Vierk & Karl Knobbe of Ashland, NE, Glen Vierk of Arlington, VA, Justin & Shawna Young, Ava & Jayden of Rockville, Jennifer & John Verba, Jillian, Jolie, & Jaelyn of Rockville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; daughter-in-law, Jill Young; son-in- law, Paul Vierk; brothers and sister-in-law, Ray Ruzicka, Glen Ruzicka, Gordon & Nita Ruzicka.
