Elmer H. Leschinsky, 96, of St. Libory died Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverends Harvey Johnson and Harold Stromer will officiate. Interment will be in the Wiegert Cemetery northeast of Grand Island. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Community Hospital Foundation or to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Leschinsky was born November 25, 1911 in St. Libory to Hans and Martha (Teng) Leschinsky.
Elmer attended District School #41 and then Grand Island Senior High. After his schooling he worked for the Teng family, then for Henry and Michael Krohn. He also worked at his parents general store in St. Libory.
He was united in marriage to Louise Reher on February 18, 1936 in Grand Island. He began farming in 1936 in the St. Libory area and moved to the home place near St. Libory in 1943. Besides farming, Elmer did custom combining. He raised hogs, cattle and guinnes. He loved 4 wheelers.
Elmer enjoyed welding and he especially liked to make clocks, do woodworking and overhaul different items.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Platte-Duetsche in Grand Island. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of St. Libory; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kathy Leschinsky of St. Libory; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jerry McNutt of Chula Vista, CA and Joyce and Dale Ward of St. Paul; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Mader, who was married to Donald Leschinsky; nine grandchildren, Ron and Steve Ward, Sandy Slobaszewski, Wesley, Kevin and Karen McNutt, Sheila Limpach, Troy Leschinsky, and Michael Leschinsky; ten great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Randy, and Roger Slobaszewski, Riley and Kylee Ward, Austin and Cori McNutt, Dylan Leschinsky and Mikey and Breanna Leschinsky; step great-grandchildren, Josh and Jason Limpach, step-grandchildren, Paul Mader, Loretta Stelk and Debbie Jaukin; step great-grandchildren, Chloe and Reba Mader, Austin and Tyler Stelk and Mason Jaukin; one brother, Ora Lee Leschinsky of Wasola, MO; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Myrtle Burhman of Grand Island, Margie and Clyde Townsend of Marysville, WA and Velma Stewart of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Louis, Ervin and Arnold Leschinsky and two sisters, Lorraine Wissing and Alice Southard.
