Richard "Dick" W. Lemmerman, 88, of Palmer died Friday, October 23, 2009 at Litzenburg Long Term Care in Central City.



Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Military rites at graveside will be presented by the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church.



Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.



Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or to the St. Francis Hospice.



Richard "Dick" was born October 5, 1921 to Walter and Mamie (Caudle) Lemmerman at Palmer, Nebraska.



He attended schools in Fullerton, Wolbach and Palmer. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1939. He entered the United States Coast Guard on July 20, 1942. He worked in the as an Aviation Radioman in the service. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1945.



After being discharged from the Coast Guard, Dick and his brother Bill joined their father Walter in forming a partnership in the hatchery business. Later Lemmerman Poultry was named and they also engaged in farming. Dick retired in 1980.



He was united in marriage to Carol Hettrich at the United Methodist Church in Palmer on October 6, 1946. They were married for 63 years. To this union were born five children. A son Ronald Lee passed away May 13, 1986.



He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer and the Palmer Commercial Club. He was also a member of the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer.



Dick enjoyed camping and fishing. He and his wife took many motorcoach tours and also enjoyed going to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers football games.



Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Carol of Palmer; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda & Russ Saunders of Central City, Deborah & Dan Nedrig of Archer and Tricia & Ron Eriksen of Palm Springs, CA; one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney & Heather Lemmerman of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Julie & Bob Person of Polk, Dustin & Melissa Saunders of Omaha, Jeff Saunders and friend LaShonn Garner of Kansas City, KS, Leah & Scott Blake of Omaha, Andrea & Kenny Schroeder of Osceola, Clay Nedrig and David Nedrig of Grand Island; two step grandsons, Travis & Trish Morfitt of Estherville, IA, Grant & Natalie Morfitt of Cedar Falls, IA; great grandchildren, Hannah & Sarah Person, Benjamin Saunders, Sophia, Abe and Eli Schroeder; one step great grandson, Liam Morfitt; one sister, Barbara Greenway of Palmer.



He is preceded in death by parents, Walter & Mamie, a son Ronald, two brothers Robert & Bill Lemmerman, a nephew Robert Lemmerman, a sister-in-law Mary Lemmerman and brother-in-law Bill Greenway.
