Elsie Skala, 95, of St. Paul died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Joel Rathbun will officiate. Interment will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the St. Paul EMT;s.
Mrs. Skala was born June 3, 1914 in Arcadia, NE to Emil and Ida (Radil) Skolil.
She was raised in Arcadia and then moved to a farm east of Ord in 1920. She attended Ord High School.
Elsie was united in marriage to William Skala on January 28, 1936 in Ord. The couple lived and farmed in the Ord area until 1945 when they moved into Ord.
They moved to St. Paul in 1950. Elsie worked at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and Delicious Foods in Grand Island. She then worked at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
She enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Elsie was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Christmas Club of St. Paul and Farwell.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, E. W. (Willie) and Lori Skala of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wilhelmina and Lores Wolf of Grand Island and Darlene Polk of Crystal River, FL; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William on April 3, 1982; an infant daughter, Arlene; and four sisters, Emma Novotny, Viola Kolar, Elaine Schriner and Elma Hrebec.
