Mrs. Geraldine M. Berggren

Geraldine Berggren, 84, of St. Paul died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at her home in St. Paul.



Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Joel Rathbun will officiate. Interment will be in Fairdale Sunrise Cemetery north of St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the St. Paul Library Foundation.



Mrs. Berggren was born December 10, 1925 in St. Paul to Ralph and Madeline (Bisgard) Calvin.



She was raised in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Schools where she graduated in 1943. After her schooling, she taught rural school in District 8 & 79 near St. Paul for three years.



She was united in marriage to Lloyd Berggren on August 20, 1947 in the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul.



The couple moved to the family farm where they lived and farmed until 1988 when they moved into St. Paul.



Her husband, Lloyd died on April 23, 2005. Geraldine continued to live in St. Paul for the remainder of her life.



She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking and baking. Geraldine liked to collect thimbles. She helped with 4-H when her children were active in it.



Geraldine was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of a local extension club, the Howard County Historical Society and was active in the Farmers Union. She was a member of the Howard County Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered at the thrift shop.



Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Berggren of Wood River, Ron and Julia Berggren of Arlington, TX and Daryl and Alisa Berggren of Bentonville, AR; seven grandchildren, Pam & Bryan Flynn, Kristi and Jeff Hebert, Richie Berggren and his fiancé© Sarah Newsome, Matthew and Marla Berggren, Heather Berggren and her fiancé© Chris Croft, Calvin and Lesli Berggren and Ellen Berggren; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brandon and Megan Hebert and Zach and Tyler Flynn; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Donna Calvin of St. Paul and Ron and Pat Calvin of Omaha.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; and a son, Howard Berggren.
