Mary E. Mailender, 86, of St. Paul died December 11, 2009 at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. Father Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Legion Auxiliary honors will be presented by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mary was born April 17, 1923 at Durham, North Carolina to Donald C. & Mary Etta (Masingale) Harward.
She was raised in Durham and attended grade school. She then attended Wake Forest High School where she graduated. After high school she attended Secretarial School at Duke University.
Mary was united in marriage to Thomas A. Mailender on August 26, 1944 at Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The couple made their home in Durham, North Carolina. She worked for J. Edgar Hoover for several years.
In 1950, the family moved to Spalding. Later the family moved to a farm north of Wolbach.
The couple then moved to St. Paul where they lived until Tom moved to the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Shortly after, Mary also moved to the Nebraska Veteran's Home. Her husband passed away January 3, 2005 and she continued to live there for the remainder of her life.
Mary enjoyed bowling, playing cards and visiting with people.
She was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119, both of St. Paul and she was active in the Greeley County March of Dimes and the Greeley County Extension.
Survivors include one son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Rosa Mailender of Kissimmee, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Tommy Pribnow of Greeley and Jean & David Switzer of Columbus; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Juanita Register of Raleigh, NC and Swanny & James Faucette of Hillsborough, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Tom.
