Mariam Schade, 74, of Hastings died October 11, 2009 at Good Samaritan Center- Perkins Pavilion in Hastings.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mariam was born September 29, 1935 in Grand Island to Christian & Anna (Christensen) Petersen. She grew up on the family farm in Boelus. She attended school at Boelus Public Schools.
She was united in marriage to Gaylord Schade on April 14, 1951 in Grand Island. The couple farmed near Farwell until 1984. They moved to Wood River where she worked as a homemaker. In July of 1997 the couple moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
Gaylord and Mariam were past members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she taught Bible School for eleven years. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, all animals, and baking. She also enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Gaylord of Hastings; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Philip & Susan Schade and Clifton & Shelley Schade all of Hastings and Mitchell Schade of Juniata; two daughters and a son-in-law, Leona & Gerald Kokes of Arcadia and Gloria & Jeff Farber of Hastings; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers & a sister-in-law, John Petersen and Jeff & Ruby Petersen all of Boelus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Herman, Gilbert, Richard, and Stanley Petersen; one infant sister Lemay and one sister Evelyn Quest.
