Mrs. Schrunk was born November 21, 1924 on a farm near Zumbrota, MN to Carl and Lessie (Greer) Budensiek. She attended country school and then three years of high school in Zumbrota. Her senior year of school, she went with her two older brothers, David and Morris, to Miltonville, KS where she graduated from high school at the same time her brothers were attending college. Following her graduation, she attended Teacher Training School for a year. She then taught in various country schools for seven years.
During the early summer of 1950, she went to visit her older brother, Morris who was pasturing the Wesleyan Church at Lynch, NE. There, she met Thomas Schrunk, who attended Morris' church and later Thomas and Phyllis were married at Zumbrota, MN on November 24, 1950 and moved to the Schrunk farm near Lynch.
Phyllis enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing. She also helped her husband, Thomas, with mowing and raking hay, besides being a good wife and stay-at-home mom. She was also active in the Wesleyan Church, including being the church Treasurer and Secretary/Treasurer of the Missionary Society. To this union were born a son and daughter, Thomas Quinton and Sharon (Pulscher). They gave their children a rich Christian heritage by not only telling them about the Lord, but being an example and attending church as a family whenever the church doors were open.
In September of 1981, Thomas and Phyllis moved to Palmer to be near their grandchildren after selling their farm. Phyllis again became active in the Palmer Wesleyan Church where they had transferred their membership from Lynch and became the Wesleyan Missionary Society Secretary and Treasurer. Phyllis also was very active at the Palmer Senior Center and held an office.
On February 14, 1990, Phyllis' husband, Thomas, passed away due to a car accident. Phyllis enjoyed having her son, Quinton, with her after she became widowed, because Quinton had moved to their home in Palmer while he worked in Grand Island and ranched in the area. Phyllis spent many hours with Quinton when he needed some assistance with his cattle.
While Phyllis' grandchildren, Jonathan and Joyetta Pulscher, were growing up. They would spend time with their grandparents when their parents needed to get away. Then when she became a great-grandmother, she enjoyed her great-grandson, Ashton Roy, (age 3) entertain him with his toys and sitting on her lap.
In February of 2007, Phyllis had some health issues and after having another unrelated surgery in July of 2008, she lived most of the time with her daughter, Sharon, and would spend time with Quinton on weekends, etc., as time allowed.
She leaves to mourn her passing a son, Quinton of Palmer; a daughter & son-in-law, Sharon & Robert Pulscher, of Palmer; two grandchildren, Jonathan & Jen Pulscher of Grand Island and Joyetta & Brian Roy of Omaha; one great grandson, Ashton Roy of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Budensiek, of Janesville, Wisconsin; one brother & sister-in-law, Mark & Nancy Budensiek, of Stuart, Virginia; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; and two brothers, David and Morris.
