Raymond L. Hill

Raymond L. Hill, of St. Paul (formerly of Scotia), passed away on July 14, 2026, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul at the age of 87.

A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at the Grandview Cemetery in Spalding, Nebraska at 2:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Born on December 23, 1938, in Eugene, Oregon, to Lester R. and Arleta M.(Johnson) Hill. Raymond’s life was characterized by service, creativity, and heartfelt commitment to those he loved.

Raymond’s early years were spent in Nebraska, where he attended grade school in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School in 1957. These formative experiences helped shape his strong character and enduring values. Following his graduation, Raymond answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. His service included time working on the Berlin Wall, a memory that remained significant throughout his life.

After returning home, Raymond pursued his passions both personally and professionally. He found fulfillment in creative pursuits, especially painting and woodworking. These hobbies were not only a source of joy and relaxation for Raymond but also a way to share his craftsmanship and artistry with friends and family. His creations, some gifted to loved ones, stand as tangible reminders of his care and attention to detail.

Raymond’s life was enriched by the many bonds he forged with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Hill, who stood by his side with unwavering support. He leaves behind his sons, Mark Hill (Rebecca) of Lawton, OK, and Allan Hill of Harlan, IA; his daughters, Christina Thomas (Mark), of Crescent, IA; Debra Moss (Tim) of Harlan, IA; and Teresa Rasmussen (Brent) of Harlan, IA; his step-sons, Kenneth Bloom (Nellie) of Hampton, NE., Russell (Annette) Bloom of Scotia, NE., and Jeffrey (Julie) Bloom of Lincoln, NE.; his step-daughter, Christine Rhoads (Ronald) of Columbus, NE.; and his step-brother, Eldon Yost of LA; numerous grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. Each carries forward Raymond’s legacy of kindness and integrity.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Hill; mother, Arleta Barkhoff; step-father, Cyril Barkhoff; his son, Phillip Dean Hill; grandson, Jacob Hill; step-twin grandsons, Kyle and Curtis Bloom; step-grandson, Jamie Bloom; step-granddaughter, Jenna Bloom; brother, Gerald Hill; and daughter-in-law, Laurie Hill; his step-brother, Duane Yost of Logan, IA. Their memories live on as a testament to the family’s enduring bond and collective history.

Raymond’s legacy is one of steadfastness, service, and creative spirit. His contributions in all walks of life—whether as a soldier, artist, or devoted relative—have left a meaningful impact on those who knew him.
