Rose Marie (Merchen) Kolar

Rose Marie Kolar, 86, originally of Wolbach, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul, NE.

Services will be held Friday, May 31, 2019, at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach. Reverend Glenda Pearson will be officiating. Visitation will also be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 4:00 -7:00 pm. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Wolbach.

Rose Marie (Merchen) Kolar was born December 19, 1932 at home on a farm near Norris, South Dakota during the depression.  Parents Fred and Leona (Karlin) Merchen, moved from the farm in South Dakota to a farm at Bloomfield Nebraska.

She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1950, was the homecoming queen and played trombone. She thoroughly enjoyed keeping in touch with her classmates throughout the years.  Rose Marie also taught briefly at a K-8 country school after graduating from high school.

Rose Marie’s future husband, Francis Kolar was teaching at Bloomfield High School where they met and eventually married in 1951.  Rose Marie and Francis farmed near Wolbach until their retirement when they moved into town in 1988.

Rose Marie milked cows, cared for stock cattle, raised broiler chickens, baked bread, cinnamon rolls, and pies.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, quilting, crocheting, and she left behind many nice pieces of her handiwork.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ray Mapes American Legion Auxiliary and the Pins and Pans Extension Club, all of Wolbach.

Rose Marie and Francis had four children.  Kevin (deceased) & daughter-in-law, Sally Sandall of Wisner, Kathleen & Dick Wiechman of Lincoln, Kelley & Kevin Sok of Grand Island, and Kerry Kolar of Wolbach; grandchildren; Whitney Miller, Nicholas Kolar, Sally Hufstader, Ben, Simon, and Joe Wiechman, Kody, Kassidy, and Karson Sok, Mike Crawford, Tanner Kolar, Lindsay, Staci, and Taya Kolar, and Krista Stewart and great-grandchildren:  Shelby, Dawson, and Rhett Miller, Garrett, Paige, Francis, Elsie, and Lionel Hufstader, Grant, Amelia, Violet, Clara, and Henry Wiechman, Lincoln Crawford, Bexley, Issac, Brently, Norah and Aubree Kolar.  She is also survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice June and Don Gilsdorf of Bloomfield, Fern and Roger Nohr of Crofton, Joann & Al Kuper of Inverness, IL and Connie and Norman Rentschler of Inwood, IA, and a brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Gloria Merchen of Champagne, IL.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in January 2010; a son, Kevin in October 2009; her parents; Fred and Leona Merchen; a brother, Marvin Merchen; a sister, Joyce Frevert, and a daughter in law, Brenda Kolar.
