Shirney Ellen Boesen

Shirney Ellen Boesen, 83, of Gretna, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at her home.

Shirney was born on January 17, 1942, in Kearney, Nebraska, to Allen and Martha (Schirneker) Howard. She grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Curtis Boesen on October 28, 1964, in Kearney.

Shirney was employed for 20 years at Hughes Brothers of Seward. She loved family and travel. She enjoyed crafts and hobbies including plastic canvas and knitting. She always decorated for every holiday and season.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dennis (Amy) Boesen of Omaha; daughters, Lori (Jon) Carper of West Point, Nebraska, Linn Boesen and Leslie Boesen, both of Omaha; sisters, Pat (Gerry) Curry of Loveland, CO, Rae Peterson of Medford, MA, and Sue Steward of Omaha; 4 grandchildren, James (Whitney West) Boesen of Omaha, Derek (Michelle) Boesen of Omaha, Elrond Carper of Bennington, Jayden Carper of Norfolk; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Shirney was preceded in death by her parents and husband Curtis Boesen.

A Private Celebration of Shirney’s life will be held in Omaha, Nebraska. Her final resting place will be at Loup Fork Cemetery in Howard County, Nebraska, where Private Family Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025.  In lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to the charity of your choice. Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul is assisting Shirney’s family with arrangements.
