Floyd H. Wheeler, 90, of the Cairo area, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Cairo. The Reverend Jeff Hale will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. There will not be any visitation, Mr. Wheeler was cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo Senior Center or to the Cairo Fire Department.
Mr. Wheeler was born October 5, 1919 in Boone County on the family farm to Homer E. and Florence (Ogden) Wheeler.
Floyd received his early education in Boone County rural school and then attended Grand Island Senior High School to the 10
th
grade.
He worked for area farmers in Shelton and Wood River area. He then farmed for himself in Cairo area. He also worked at one time for a sugar beet factory in Grand Island, Sid Cole Gravel Company in Grand Island and other various jobs in Grand Island.
Floyd took care of his mother and his older brother, Glen, who was blind, until their death.
He was a member of the Cairo Methodist Church.
Floyd had a love for music and dancing. He enjoyed drawing pictures and the outdoors.
Survivors include three sisters and brothers-in-law; Reva Berens of Grand Island, Veda & Richard Bruner of Shelton and Marilyn & James Nelson of Boelus; eight nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Glen Wheeler.
