Gary A. Ummel

     Gary A. Ummel, 75 of Grand Island, died on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at CHI Health - St. Francis in Grand Island, with his family by his side. 
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Northridge Assembly of God Church – 3025 Independence Avenue in Grand Island.  Pastor Angie Franks will be officiating.  Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.  
     Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Northridge Assembly of God Church in Grand Island.  Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.    Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
     Gary was born on May 13, 1947 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Albert and Alice (Lacey) Ummel.  He attended school in Grand Island. He was married to Kay Ummel and they had 2 children, Chris and Michelle.  The couple later divorced.  He has been married to Estel Ummel for 30 years and they have 2 children, James and Brandy. 
     Gary worked at various places throughout his life.  His greatest task was being the owner and operator of Sheffield Tree Service in Grand Island for over 30 years.  He enjoyed fishing, hot rods, gambling, and socializing with friends.  His famous last words were always, “One More” whether it was one more vehicle, one more round, or now more than ever, he’d say, “One More Day!”
     Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Estel; children, Chris, Michelle, James, and Brandy; honorary son and his wife, Mark & Shelly Sorahan; grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Cole, Lacey, Logan, Lexi, Lynzey, & Mickayla; great-granddaughter, Essence; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy, Jimmy & Jan, Albert, Jr. & Elaine, Raymond “Red” & Lisa.
    Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Glen & Myrtle.
