John Anthony Vogel was born November 26, 1940 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Charles and Mary (Warner) Vogel.

He grew up at his parents home on the north edge of Grand Island on St. Paul Road and attended St. Mary's school.

While in High School he worked three summers on the Forney Ranch near Rushville in the Nebraska Panhandle. He helped put up hay, fed cattle, and cut and branded calves. Following High School he worked an additional year at the Ranch.

At the age of 21 he was going to be drafted, so he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was sent to Lachland Air Base in Texas for basic training and later was stationed at Del Rio, Texas. Later he was sent to Sioux City, Iowa - ADC for one year before being sent to Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland.

While stationed at Jerry's Nose, a site associated with the base, he married Isabella (LaCosta) Delaney on March 27, 1965 at Port au Port.

Isabella's first husband had died in a car accident in 1962 and she was left with five daughters aged between two and eight years. The family left Newfoundland in May 1965 and the Air Force settled them in Del Rio, Texas. While in Del Rio they had a sixth daughter. In 1966 the family relocated again to Belgrade, Nebraska when John was sent to Vietnam. He worked with the U.S. Army doing electrical work fixing and maintaining generators on the base. After a year in Vietnam John returned to the States and the family was sent to Cheyenne, Wyoming for two years.

Following his military service they moved to Dannebrog in 1969 and John worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant west of Grand Island. Later he worked at the Dannebrog Elevator and then for Petersen Lumber in Dannebrog for six years. He also worked at the St. Paul Nursing Home doing maintenance.

John and Isabella moved to Sacramento, California and John worked for the Hyster Forklift Company. They returned to Nebraska in 2002 and retired in St. Paul at 1003 Sheridan Street. He did carpentry and mechanic jobs during retirement.

His wife Isabella died on August 21, 2019.

John is survived by six daughters: Deborah (Ken) Harders of Wood River, Jane (Chuck) Wieck of Dannebrog, Shirley Delaney of Omaha, Carol (Dave) McKeon of Ravenna, Sheila (Gene) Horak of St. Libory, and Isabella (Chris) Melnychuk of Roseau, Minnesota. He leaves behind 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
