Melvin “Mel” Soletti Obituary

Melvin “Mel” Albert Soletti, Jr., 75 of Twin Falls, ID, (formerly of Cedarville, CA) passed away on April 13, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Melvin was born on September 14, 1948, to Melvin Albert Soletti, Sr. and Laura Pastega Soletti in Weed, CA.  He grew up in Weed, CA and graduated from Weed High School in 1966. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Education from Chico State University.

Mel married his wife Kathleen “Kathy” Soletti in Dorris, CA on July 6, 1985. Mel was a dedicated educator for over 30 years as a superintendent, principal, teacher, and coach. Mel and Kathy moved to Cedarville in 1990 where Mel spent the majority of his career at Surprise Valley Elementary School as principal. He passionately believed as an educator that all students deserved a quality education and reading was fundamental to being successful in life. He also knew the teachers and staff were a vital part in children’s success and valued their dedication and contributions to the schools.

Mel loved the community of Surprise Valley and was always willing to help those around him. You would often find him running the shot clock at basketball games, going to Wednesday night Service Club meetings, selling scholarship raffle tickets, or manning the barbeque for community events. Mel was always ready for life’s next adventure. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed countless hunting, fishing, and camping trips with his family and friends. He mentored many youth hunters over the years and enjoyed introducing people to hunting and fishing.

Mel’s family was the most important part of his life with his favorite title being “Papa Mel.” Mel is survived by his loving wife, Kathy of 38 years. He is also survived by his five children, Melanie Soletti, Jason Soletti, Scott (Cassie) Soletti, Patricia (Jeramy) Dietz, Lauren Soletti (fiancé, Colby Shephard); his five grandchildren, Colin Soletti-Cook, Allyson Cook, Connor Dietz, Graysen and Layne Soletti; his sister, Karen (Norm) Foeller;sister-in-law, Peggy Soletti, and brother-in-law, Robert Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin Albert Soletti Sr.; mother, Laura Pastega Soletti; and brother, Timothy Soletti.

A private family celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Mel to the Surprise Valley Service Club Scholarship Fund (PO BOX 461, Cedarville, CA 96104).
