Sue Herbig Obituary

Sue Ellen “Sweet Sue” Herbig, 72, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, at CHI Health – St. Francis in Grand Island, surrounded by everyone she loved after battling multiple health issues.

A Celebration of her Life will be held from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Parkside Plaza Community Room – 420 Jay Street in St. Paul.  A Private Family Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.  Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Area Animal Shelter. 

Sue was born March 26, 1950 to Timothy & Della Elizabeth (Pierce) Castor at Rantoul, Illinois. She grew up in various places, graduating from York High School in 1968.  Sue entered the U.S. Army on November 26, 1968 and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1969.  She was united in marriage to Ralph Herbig on April 2, 1972 in St. Paul

Sue enjoyed her working years; Elstermeier Floral, Carlos O’Kelly’s, Walmart, the Grand Island VA, and the Sweet Shoppe.  She loved eating there on “Fried Chicken Wednesday’s.  Sue enjoyed being with and helping people.  Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and always put “them” above everything else.  She never missed an opportunity involving BINGO, Pepsi, and/or Chocolate!  She was always the life of the party.  She enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, cooking for the family, visiting casinos, and was an animal lover.  She never turned down an adventure, she’d just want to know where they were going!

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ralph; son, Tracy; daughter, Tally Herbig, all of St. Paul; grandchildren, Tayler Herbig & Jordan Petersen; TeAnna Silva-Herbig, Talia Silva-Herbig, Tasia Silva-Herbig, and Tavien Silva-Herbig, and their father, Adonis Silva; great-grandchildren, Zaidyn Herbig and Rylee Petertsen; best friend of 50 plus years, Deb Rasmussen; special sister-in-law, Rhonda McLamb; cousins (more like sisters), Linda Bennett, Donna Henderson, and Susan Riggs; and her puppy, Ari.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Wanda DeVary; aunt, Jean Lubben.
