Thomas "Riley" Eriksen

Thomas R. "Riley" Eriksen, 82, of Boelus died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus. Reverend Cathryn Love will officiate. Interment will be in Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus with military honors by the Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus or the Boelus Park for the purchase of playground equipment.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eriksen was born January 25, 1933in Boelus to Thomas W. and Esther (Berger) Eriksen.

Riley was raised in Boelus and attended Boelus schools where he graduated in 1951.

After graduation he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island.

He entered the United States Army in 1952 and received his discharge from the Army Reserves on September 2, 1960.

Riley was united in marriage to Donna Lou Whitefoot on January 10, 1953 in Fort Belvoir, VA.

After receiving his discharge, the couple returned to Boelus where he began farming for a short time. They moved to Spokane, WA in 1955 where he was employed by Kaiser Aluminum for two years. In 1957, Riley and Donna returned to the Boelus area where he farmed and ranched for the remainder of his life.

Family was a very important part of Riley's life, teaching his family to water ski, having family picnics, fishing at Sherman Reservoir and the Loup River and attending his grandchildren activities.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post #120, both of Boelus.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Donna of Boelus; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Pennie Eriksen of Boelus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Bruce Dabbert of Lincoln and Kath and Steve Anderson of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Leona Eriksen of Boelus; and a sister, Nadine Franssen of Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Jayne and Lyle Nelson and Lavern Franssen.
