Jerry W. Hiett

January 29, 1932 ~ November 22, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old

          Jerry Wayne Hiett, 84, of Blackshear, Ga. died Nov. 22, 2016, at Folkston Park in Folkston, Ga., following an extended illness.

          Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.  Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.  Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

          Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of local arrangements.

          Jerry was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Palmer. He was the son of George Clinton Hiett and Mary Wadsworth Hiett. He grew up in Nebraska, working and living in Grand Island and Norfolk.

          He and his wife, Jeanene Willis Hiett, a native of Grand Island, moved to Florida in 1984.

          Jerry was a veteran, having served in the US Navy during the Korean War from May, 1952 until June, 1956. He was a member of the American Legion Post 120 of Palmer, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was of the Methodist faith.

          Survivors include his wife, Jeanene of 56 years of Blackshear, Ga.; a son, Gerald, also a veteran, and his wife, Suzanne of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Hiett Green of Waycross, Ga.; and his sister, Jocelyn Nicholas Gilmont of Palmer.

          There are four grandchildren: Kenneth Hiett, serving in the Marines in Japan and his wife, Krystal, and Derek, Austin and Melanie Green, all of Waycross. There are also five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents; brothers-in-law, Victor Nicholas and Jack Gilmont; sister-in-law, Wilma Shull and her husband Don; and his in-laws, Kenneth and Faye Willis.
